Energy Week

This week at Eastern Hutt, we have been learning all about energy and power. In D1 we have been learning about the energy you get from the sun, and how it can help us to save power to help our world stay healthy.

On Tuesday we read the legend of Maui and the Sun and made a PMI chart about the good things, bad things and interesting things we knew about the sun:

On Wednesday, we filled in booklets all about the sun and how to save energy. we learned there are easy ways to save energy, like turning off a light when you leave the room, or putting on a jersey if you are cold, instead of turning on a heater!

On Thursday, Miss Pauley bought some balloons and the early birds did some experimenting with static electricity. Static electricity is a kind of energy that you get when you rub something rubber, like a balloon, against something fuzzy, like carpet. It makes the balloon into a sort of magnet, that can pick up tissue paper and even stick to the WALL!

Meg is making the balloon pick up tissues!
Samuel made his balloon stick to the wall!
Mia used the balloon to make the tissue move
like it was dancing!
Meg, Charlie and Mia mad their balloon stick to the wall too!

On Friday we had a whole school assembly. Samuel dressed up to celebrate Energy week.

At the assembly they gave out certificates for the classes who did well in the lunchbox challenge and D1 came 3rd!

Great job having plastic free lunchboxes D1!
We thought the assembly was really cool! There was a game-show about energy saving and the middle classes won, but the juniors came second!
