Fun Friday - Singing, Reading, Folk Dancing, Baking, Sausages and Christmas Trees!

D1 had a super fantastic Friday this week!
First thing in the morning we got dressed up in our Christmas hats (Miss Pauley had a headband with bobbly Santas on it) and went to the hall to sing Christmas songs. Our parents were invited to watch, and we had so much fun showing off all the new songs we learnt this year.

Next, we sat down and listened to some of our Mums read us their favourite Christmas story. Colleen, Samuel's Mum read us a story about mice at Christmas time called Jingle Bells.
Simone, Hayley's Mum read a REALLY funny story about Santa eating beans called Farty Claus. Then we had a shared morning tea with Strawberries, and lollies and yummy cupcakes. Mia Rose ate so many strawberries her tongue turned red!

After morning tea we went outside and the whole junior syndicate performed their folk-dances for their Mums' and Dads'. D1 danced to a song called Jibidi and did the Birdie Dance at the end.

After that we were REALLY hot and tired, so we went inside and had a lie down and drank all of our water, then our buddy class D2 came in and we made cool iced biscuits that looked like tea cups!

Ronan and his buddy were having fun!

It was sausage sizzle day too, so after the bell rang we had our sausages and lemonade. It was delicious!

In the afternoon, we made special stars to put in our class Christmas tree. Check it out:

Kites

Last week D1's letter of the week was 'k'. To celebrate our wonderful learning, we made kites on Friday and went out to fly them! We decorated them like suns and used bright yellow card so they stood out. We had such a great time that Miss Pauley let us fly them again on Tuesday!
Here is a video of us flying our kites. Doesn't it look like fun!

On Wednesday we decided to write stories about our kites. Here is some of our wonderful writing:

My kite looks beautiful and bright. I like my kite. - Sophie.

I am flying my kite. My kite is spinning around like a chopper. - Oscar

My kite is flying. My cool kite is bright. - Hayley

My kite looks like a flying boat. I like my kite. - Charlie

My kite looks like a birdie. My kite flew up in the air and it was beautiful! I like my kite. - Mia

My kite looked like it was the sun, going everywhere. On Tuesday we flew our kites and they looked like the sun. My kite looks beautiful. My kite is cool. They flew very high. They looked like paper planes. It was  a lot of fun. - Samuel.

Aren't we all such wonderful authors!

Haiwaiian Disco!

Last Friday night Eastern Hutt School had a very special event - a school Disco. It was extra special for D1 because it was our first EVER school disco.

The night was cold and rainy, but that didn't stop almost all of D1 coming dressed in their BEST Hawaiian Beach themed costumes, ready to party. We lined up outside the hall just before 5 o'clock, then we went inside. The hall was BEAUTIFUL, decorated with palm trees and lights to look like a party beach. There was loud music, and people selling yummy drinks and snacks at the back!

Check out Ryan's cool hula girl costume!
Keenan was dressed as Scuba Steve!

Hayley, dressed in her togs!

We had fun trying to limbo! Can you do the Limbo rock?!
Mia was so good at limbo-ing she won a prize!
We all had so much fun! We danced to our favourite song - Party Rock and we even tried to do the Macarena!
We were sad to go when the night ended... we can't wait until next year!

Diwali Day!

This week we have been learning all about Diwali, the Indian Festival of Lights.

On Wednesday, we read a Diwali story about Sita and Rama. Afterwards we coloured in and glittered illustrations from the story and wrote our own version!

Miss Pauley put it on the wall.
This was the Boys FAVOURITE part,
when the Demon kidnapped Sita!

Today, we had A6 and G3 visit in our class and together we made lanterns with Rangoli patterns on them.
Then we had to cut strips into them - Jack.
First we had to colour in the pattern, and some
people added glitter - Zoe.
Then we stuck them together - Mia
Mine is Beautiful - Teneil

Mine is cool! - Samuel
I love mine because it is patterny. - Max
HAPPY DIWALI DAY!

Magnet fun!

Today, D1 had their last science lesson with Mrs Harrison for term 3! This was our 3rd lesson, and we were learning all about MAGNETS!

We already knew that magnets stuck to metal, and that they sometimes stick together, and sometimes don't!

We did some experimenting to figure out what else they could do.

Milo Cricket!

On Tuesday, we got the chance to learn some cricket skills from a real Firebird! The Firebirds are the Wellington cricket team and one of their star players, Andrew Lamb and his cool friend came to Eastern Hutt school to teach us about cricket.

First we had to sit and listen to the instructions.
We were REALLY quiet!

Then we did some running drills.
Here are Liam, Sophie and Jack doing some
great running!

Sophie M, throwing her ball!

Ronan, running back to his team.

Teneil, practicing running with a bat.

Mia-Rose, also running with her bat.

Charlie, running back to HIS team!
At the end, the coaches gave everyone a bag FULL of great cricket things, like posters and stickers, and even a voucher for pizza!
Thank you so much Andrew (and his nice teammate) for teaching us all about Cricket. D1 can't wait until Miss Pauley takes us out for a game!

Kiwiana Day

On Monday D1 and the rest of the junior syndicate had a fantastic day celebrating all things Kiwi. We created some amazing art, and played some really fun games.

Because we were split into lots of different groups, Miss Pauley doesn't have many photos of what we did, but there are a few!
Here is a graph of our favourite thing we did on Kiwiana day. The fish and chip lunch and the sports were the most popular, but 3 people liked doing the art the best!
